So we met at Canter’s, and I said, ‘So what is it?’ He said, ‘This is the greatest idea ever! This is the greatest put-on of all time!’ Now, at this time, Elvis had died, and there were already rumors going around about did Elvis fake his death, did Jim Morrison fake his death. Andy said, ‘You know, if some celebrity really did this, do you know how big it would be? How legendary it would be?’
“And don’t get me wrong: Andy was always looking to be legendary. Always looking to be legendary. So I knew where he was going with this, but I was tired. I said, ‘So . . .?’ And he said, ‘I’m thinking about faking my death. What do you think about that concept?’ I said, ‘Andy, I think it’s absolutely brilliant. But count me out. something up about my Andy sighting in the elevator. The man I spoke with
DID, in fact, have a short beard and moustache. Having been a huge Taxi fan, I

After just four weeks of twice-daily treatments Kaufman changed from a depressed, helpless near-vegetable to a happy, energetic man confident that soon he would return to his show business career. Fuccons The change in Andy was amazing. When I first saw Andy he was thin, emaciated and frequently used a wheelchair. I saw he was incapable of dressing himself and was in great pain. He was glassy eyed and he never ate much. He was scared. "The American doctors have told me my cancer is incurable and that I don't have many months to live. This is my last hope" He had to be lifted onto the treatment table. Then Labo began kneading Kaufman's body with his hands. Suddenly Labo appeared to remove bloody, oozing tissue from Kaufman's chest. And at each treatment over the next four days, Labo appeared to remove bloody tissue from Andy's body. On the fifth day, Andy said, 'something is wrong - I have pain!' He raised his hand and poinnted to the back of his head. His eyes were filled with fear. Labo turned Kaufman over so that he was facedown and began to search Andy's head, which the star had shaved.

Kaufman could have faked his death, but you talk of Kaufman being the master illusionist and such. Here's a theory for you. What if Kaufman did all of this Faking his death stuff, talking to people about it and such because he wanted to live on after he did die. The people forever would be confused about whether he faked or didn't and he knew that? I'm a firm believer that no one wants to find what they claim to look for. I'm a Belgian student trying to gauge just how avant-garde Andy really was (quite in my opinion). Your site is intruiging to be sure, but what about Kaufman's incessant drive to become really veddy veddy famous? If he did in fact fake his death, during what was a low point in his career, wouldn't this ambition urge him to surface much much sooner (seeing it has been more than twenty years)? I know Andy (or his bubbling twin, or whoever) wanted an audience before all else, but it seems hard to believe he's staging fist fights on some solitary beach in Aruba or on the slopes of an Asian mountain to indulge a dozen spaced out hippies eating tofu on toast? And yes I am aware that his hoaxes were never meant to be exposed (thus revealing them as hoaxes), and yes he is the master of Baudrillard's simulacrum (coney island IS Fuccons disneyland), but still...seems hard to believe he would pass up the opportunity to shock. Perhaps, in keeping with your site's dedication to the spirit of AK, you could let a Belgian student (inept at computer hermeneutics) in on a little more: it would be blended into an insignificant 4000-word paper on the avant-garde (which will have the emphasis throughout), submitted to the staff of the English faculty of a Belgian university (KUL), destined, after marking, to disappear into the dusty filing cabinet of a professor who is likely never to have heard of Andy Kaufman (Man on the Moon went straight to video in Belgium). funny or less funny would be nothing more than a matter of opinion. For example
when a human says "I can't decide if the movie was good or bad" it is
as though the celluloid will somehow change it's properties once a conclusion
has been reached. Never fully realizing that opinion is a belief nothing more
nothing less. There is no right or wrong good or bad better or worse
there is only perception which is opinion. When the majority favor an opinion
it is still merely an opinion. For example the belief that a human is above an
animal that it is perfectly fine to kill and eat an animal that if an animal is
struck by a motor vehicle and left to rot on the side of the road rather than
call an ambulance the fact that no dead animal count will be taken in the gulf

I have repeatedly stated that this has nothing to do
with him being alive. This is about him not dying on May 16, 1984. Those who
hang on to some hope that he is alive do not seem to appreciate the fact that
he did not die on May 16 1984. They do not want to know that he did not die on
May 16 1984. Most of them would be content with man on the moon part 2. I say
it is a fool that waits for a man who may or may not be alive. Revel in the
knowledge he did not die on May 16 1984. I believe that is all we need. For all
I know or care he may be dead. This is not relevant to me. The relevance lies
in the lack of death on May 16 1984. The last time I spoke to Andrew was
approximately one year ago he could easily be dead but there was no death on
May 16 1984. Those who want Elvis to be alive simply do not want him to be
dead. They do not care what it would take to not be dead, they just want a
return of some sort. This misses the point completely in my opinion. I believe

however so far removed from anything that most of you would ever consider doing
that it is literally inconceivable to you. Therefore you do not see it.

and analyzed your page. May I begin by saying that I love Andy Kaufman. We all
know that he was/is a genius, and he will forever be an icon. I am not sure if
you created this site to explain how Andy did not die on that day, or to 'blog'
your views on life and psychology. I think the point that you are trying to
make is you should not believe everything you see, but also that you should. It
is very very confusing to me-but then-what is confusion? I have so many thoughts
right now and it is incredible. Stepping out of this focus on life, and looking
at it from a closed-minded viewpoint, I want to ponder. I would rather talk
about Andy than life for a while. To many people who have read this page, you
may be a few things. You could be an insane person who sits at the computer all
day. You could be an enlightened genius. You could be Andy. The possibilities
are endless. I however do not think that you are Andy. Andy wouldn't use the
computer to show his work to a limited audience. I may be wrong. But you could
be a friend of Andy. Then again, you could be a 'wacko' out there somewhere.
That last one to me however is somewhat doubtful. I have read places that your
name is 'Steve Rocco'. This may not be true. I have also read that people have
seen you, at a board meeting of some sort, and think that you are in fact Andy
Kaufman. A problem with that though to me is that you sometimes refer to Andy

Andy Kaufman faked his death. I think that any true fan of Kaufman's real work
(not Latka) has no choice but to believe it. It is a natural continuation of
his art. It makes perfect sense. I also suspect that you are either Kaufman or
are working on his behalf. I have noticed some shameless promotion going on
lately so I thought I would give it a shot. If you do not print this I will

years, I have come to the conclusion that you are INDEED the real Andy Kaufman.

associated with are merely attempts to further cloud the public's perception of

particularly fascinated by your most recent comments, and believe that finally

Help me understand “Please”. Why would you delude the Shock & Awe factor that would have been enormous by creating this website. By creating this website and revealing little secretes many people who thought Andy did not die that day will not be shocked and will just be “I Told You So” so if so many people believe Andy didn’t die that day in 1984 how can you call it the Greatest Illusion Ever? Great Illusion would only be if a very very few people believed he was alive. But it’s just the opposite. Very very few think he died. I would think You would want to not give away any secretes and just one day show up out of nowhere on comic relief in November. I would be extremely more shocked if Elvis showed up even though I think he might have faked his death because he has no intentional contact with anyone. But if Andy was to appear one day only a very very few people would be shocked. things. Right off the bat I would like to bring up the "hidden" link
to the story about Mr. McDermott. I noticed another emailer brought that up but

Julie Hecht. Nathan died of a rapidly growing cancer. It ravages the body within six months. The Kaufman character spoke of using cancer as a means to allude many years prior to Nathan's death. Over 4 years prior.

I wrote to you a while ago and you posted an intriguing answer to what I had to
say.
I think things are becoming steadily more interesting as the weeks go by. For a
couple of hours last night, your website turned into 'Get D Shirt.com'. What
was most interesting is that the Ebay store you linked to is one belonging to a
certain Mr Kaufman's girlfriend. The mind boggles! I'm sure I wasn't the only
one that saw the brief change, before you ripped it away and returned to the
regular page you've always had.
I maintain that I think you really are Andy Kaufman, albeit possibly an
individual who has Andy Kaufman as one of his many personalities. I think KING
is one of many, not THE one, in the same way Tony Clifton and the Foreign Man
were. These are all aspects of one man; a man whom I feel will soon be coming
out of hiding. Then again, in a moment of disbelief, we might all be feeding
into the hands of a giant prankster - and for that, you probably deserve all of
the respect in the world for at least keeping us all going over the years.
I've watched over time as the personalities spew forth. We've got Steve Rocco,
hidden behind his shades and wooly hat, Steven Maddox (who remains an enigma),
Julie H who was photographed supposedly visiting Steven Maddox but was actually
quite clearly photographing herself in her OWN home, Enrique and Clare Chanel.
Are all of these people in some way connected with Mr Kaufman? I think so.
Again, it's all about masks and illusions, as you yourself know.
Andy did not did in 1984. We know this, because you've told us. Whether he's
still alive today is irrespective. The real question is: is Andy Kaufman the
one who will shortly write a reply to this? Is Andy Kaufman the one who is
secretly giggling behind a computer screen as he reads all of these plebs
(including myself) try to deicipher his own Davinci Code? Let's hope so,
because otherwise we're all truly insane.
I do have one question though: you stated early in the life of this website
that you would always cover up the group photograph with the two marks so that
the picture remains genuinely yours. Why is it then that you are quite happy
posting a video from somebody else which clearly shows the picture in its
complete form? You've said absolutely nothing to indicate that you are unhappy,
even though you are adamant that the picture would never be completely
revealed. For those not aware, by the way, the two people uncovered in that
picture are Andy's father and his girlfriend.
Oh and one more question - if the 'Book of Illusion' is, in fact, mostly
footage, why do you keep referring to it as a book? Again, the mind boggles!

Do you think Andy was autistic to some degree? Speaking as someone who is autistic themselves, Andy's eccentricities often appeared (at least to me) to be because he was trying to understand how to socially adapt (similar to Asberger's syndrome). Although I've learned to cope with it over the years, social situations were extremely confusing for me as a young person.
I always enjoyed Andy because his style of 'odd' behavior made sense to me (even moreso when I was younger - I was born in 69 so I was quite young at the time of Andy's 'heyday').

Hello KING I firstly like to state quite clearly that whoever you are and whatever your motivations are for doing what, your doing I like it ! I have only stumbled across your site in the last couple of days (via the viral that was placed as a comment on a Kaufman clip at youtube, in case you're interested.) and have yet to fully digest exactly what is going on with it. So forgive me if this mail comes across like a meal rushed out of the oven by a cook, desperate to eat. I may or may not be of interest to you to know roughly the logic that drives the audience to navigate around your site (i suspect that on some level it does as you seem quite intent on drawing maps.) but i will loosly recap for my own benefit. I am not a huge fan of Kaufman, I was aware of his existance before 'Man on the Moon' watched the film (not till it was on tv though, if i remember correctly) and enjoyed it, without becoming a Kaufman obsessive. I was more attracted by the idea of a grand hoax that the site alluded to and the notion that the site itself was some kind of a puzzle. Before reading the posts made on the site I first tryed to look around other areas of the url (puzzlementary and bookofillusions ...etc) without any joy. I then began looking for other referances to the site on the web of which there are few and mostly seem to be orchestrated or influenced by you. Shortly after i had gathered a few threads for investigating further into the puzzle (hidden text, names, turns of phrase, pointers left by you.) The message board of Clair Channel seems to me to be very interesting, of late is seems to be more of a place to socialise for a few people, but the fact that it is still going is strange in itself. I noticed on another message board a number of postings by a man clearly playing one of the characters outlined in Kaufmans (sic) blog (is this significant?? I doubt it.) I have also come across a man named Glen, who has made several posts on differant message boards and claims to be a PI investigating the wherabouts of Stephen Maddox. My initial instinc is that these posts are from you and are a part of the puzzle, but I could be wrong. I have been left somewhat with the feeling that I have arrived too late and missed key parts of the puzzle (are you still reading or have you become bored yet?) By looking at some archives of your site I can see that it changes and there seem to be parts of the puzzle already solved.( as a side note i noticed that there is a post by someone claiming to be making a documentary on the Piano Man, however the post is dated well before the piano man was ever heard of, is this significant? or a simple error) At its heart the puzzle seems to be about The Book of Illusion, this again leads to the possibliity of reading too much into to things as alot of your hidden text relates to the book of the same title by Paul Auster. You stated that a chapter of this would be revealed at the House of Blues (was this the documentary about Jim Carrey, if so that's very interesting). Are you at liberty to divulge if any other chapters have yet been revealed ro discovered? I suspect that there is one buried somewhere within the site but I have so far been too lazy/stupid to unearth it. THEORIES Ok so here is my two cents at this point. 1. You are a Kaufman fan of some sorts and have set the site up as a tribute to him by toying with the conceptions of the sites visitors. 2. You are the spokesman for a cult of people who believe Kaufman is some kind of prophet and are trying to lead people to some kind of enlightenment. 3. You are a puzzlementary company, who inspired by Kaufmans work have set up and internet riddle. 4. You are or are in some was involved with the man known as Andy Kaufman. This man did not die on May 16 1984. Instead what occured was a significant point in a long routine that had been underway for many years and was thus to continue. On May 17 this man recorded a video in which he outlined his plan. Far from dissapear this man has lived among us for the past two decades achieving things we wouldn't believe possible, all the time documenting and waiting for the final revelation. You stated early on (as Enrique) that you had an idea of how he culd reuturn.the popular argument to this s eems to be that there would be a joke with no punchline. What if the punchline was that from the begining Kaufman was a charater killed off by his creator(the death of celbrity, the immortality of legend) who since then has created a number of characters that we all know and played them for us. (I find it hardest of all to articlate this idea, this is what I want to believe, simply because it would be so unblieveable.) WHAT I ASK I would appreciate it if you were to do all, some, or none of the following things 1. Can you bring me up to speed on anything I am unable to now find out for myself 2. The copy of the script that i got from 'The Tony Clifton story' says Tony dies at age forty-five, not forty-seven as stated at the top of your website. I don't know if this is a mistake on your website or an alteration of my copy. I just thought it was interesting that Andy was forty-five at the time of his own death. If the original script did in fact read that Tony was forty-five when he died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center AND it was written in 1980, four years prior to Andy's supposed death, I would be inclined to believe Andy's death was staged. It's almost an exact replica of Andy's death and there would be absolutely no way of knowing that he would have died at that age even if he had known he had cancer as early as 1980.
